Kazım Yılmaz, the President of Samsun Çarşamba Commodity Exchange (ÇTB), stated, “In the complaints we received from our members, we see that hazelnut buying and selling transactions are carried out without invoices and without obtaining exchange registration, and these individuals, referred to as ‘weighers’, are purchasing hazelnuts at prices higher than the market rates, as well as situations where hazelnut sacks are weighed multiple times on fraudulent scales and are reported to weigh less in kilograms continue to be experienced.”

Yılmaz, the Chairman of the Board of Directors, visited the newly appointed District Governor Mehmet Kamil Sağlam in his office and wished him success in his duties. Providing information about Çarşamba to Governor Sağlam, President Kazım Yılmaz conveyed the works to be carried out to protect Çarşamba’s hazelnuts and hazelnut producers.

In his speech during the visit, President Yılmaz stated that they are fighting for hazelnuts, saying, “As a city fortunate in terms of geographical location, we have been benefiting from these lands and conducting trade for centuries. We are trying to maintain the value of hazelnuts, which is the most important source of livelihood for our district. Due to the hazelnut season, we see that we continue to receive complaints from our members about the buying and selling of hazelnuts without invoices and exchange registration, that these so-called weighers are purchasing hazelnuts at prices higher than the market rates, and that issues such as weighing hazelnut sacks multiple times on fraudulent scales and reporting lower weights in kilograms continue. Similar to previous years, we will soon convey this issue to our district governor’s office in order to identify the factors affecting hazelnuts and report them to the relevant authorities.”

Expressing that the exchange’s duty is to monitor practices that may distort competition and report them to the relevant authorities if detected, President Yılmaz mentioned that they are working to prevent all unfair competition activities that may arise in the hazelnut market. Yılmaz also stated that complaints could be made to the exchange regarding individuals with no relation to hazelnut trade, emphasizing that for the last few years, the follow-up of the issue has been carried out in collaboration with the Çarşamba District Police Department, and that reports can be notified to the police, gendarmerie, and tax office.

Stating that the district governors who have served so far have made significant contributions to the development of the city, Yılmaz said, “I believe that together we will provide important contributions to Çarşamba and achieve successful services. I wish you success in your new position. Welcome to our district.”

Following the visit, which progressed with mutual consultations, Governor Sağlam thanked President Yılmaz and the exchange council for their visit.

Present at the visit were Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors Şevket Zeren, Council President Hacı Toraman, General Secretary Sercan Yaşar, Council Member Onur Bahattin Yılmaz, and Founding Council President Nurettin Öztekin.
