Psychiatry Specialist Dr. Dilek Günaydın stated that burnout syndrome is a state of physical, mental, and emotional exhaustion that arises as a result of long-term stress, saying, “This syndrome can seriously affect individuals’ quality of life and can lead to various problems in professional and social life.”

In recent years, the increasing stress and pressure in both work and personal life have led to the prevalence of burnout syndrome. Psychiatry Specialist Dr. Dilek Günaydın from Medical Park Ordu Hospital made statements regarding burnout syndrome. Dr. Günaydın noted that the symptoms of burnout syndrome usually appear gradually, saying, “Initially, a person exerts a lot of effort under intense work pace and stress. Even though they realize that their workload and responsibilities have taken precedence over their personal life, they continue to live in harmony. However, over time, they may feel that they cannot change these conditions, leading to symptoms such as anger issues, apathy, and sleep disorders. If this process continues, intense feelings of helplessness, disinterest in their surroundings, and hopelessness may arise, negatively affecting the individual’s social and professional life.”

“Insomnia can occur”

Dr. Günaydın mentioned that headaches and insomnia may occur in burnout syndrome, stating, “The symptoms that arise in individuals due to constant stress and overexertion vary from person to person and manifest in a way that negatively affects daily life. These symptoms typically lead to significant impairments in the person’s energy, emotional state, and mental functions. Persistent feelings of tiredness and exhaustion, loss of meaning in work and life, emotional emptiness, decreased or increased appetite, difficulty concentrating, headaches, and insomnia are some of the physical symptoms.”

“Working under stress triggers it”

Emphasizing that burnout syndrome is particularly observed in individuals working under heavy workloads and stress, Dr. Günaydın stated, “Among the main causes of burnout syndrome are excessive workload, long working hours, low job satisfaction, and inadequate social support. Additionally, stress factors in individuals’ personal lives can also increase the risk of burnout.”

“Taking up a hobby is beneficial”

Dr. Günaydın pointed out that stress management and achieving a work-life balance are important in coping with burnout syndrome, saying, “Activities such as regular exercise, taking up hobbies, and participating in social events should be included. It is important to prioritize in daily life routines and to pay attention to time management. Adopting proactive approaches to reduce the effects of burnout syndrome and seeking professional help when necessary are key components of maintaining a healthy life. To prevent burnout in workplaces, it is essential to distribute the workload evenly and to support employees.”
