Students Ege Akyürekli and Bedirhan Tatar, who participated in the Young İzmir Conservatory Preparation Course opened by the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, have gained admission to their desired universities. The two young individuals will continue their university education at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Dokuz Eylul University (DEÜ).

The Young İzmir Conservatory Preparation Course, initiated by the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality to support the development of young people and ensure equal opportunities in art education, has nurtured hopes. Ege Akyürekli and Bedirhan Tatar, who attended the free course opened at the Social Projects Campus in Örnekköy by the Metropolitan Municipality, have become university students. Ege Akyürekli was accepted into the Music Technology Department of Dokuz Eylul University (DEÜ), while Bedirhan Tatar was accepted into the Musicology Department of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Dokuz Eylul University.

The course, organized within the Youth Studies Branch of the Youth and Sports Services Department of the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, prepared students for special talent exams with ear and vocal training from instructor Dr. Mustafa Bayık, bringing great joy when they were placed in their desired departments.

“I participated in this course, and I succeeded”

Ege Akyürekli (17), who was placed in university in his first year, said, “I am very happy. It was a long and tiring process. A weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I saw this course on the social media account of Young İzmir. I applied, took the exam, and then started the course. It really benefited me a lot. I feel very lucky. If I hadn’t participated in this course, I probably wouldn’t have succeeded. It was a challenging exam from which many people were eliminated. I took it in my first year.”

“I was placed in the department I had in mind”

Bedirhan Tatar (19), expressing his happiness for being placed in a department he desired, stated, “I learned about this course through my music teacher in my last year of high school. Our lessons were very enjoyable. I feel very lucky to have worked with our teacher. I was placed in the department I wanted, which was in my mind. Without this course, maybe I could have succeeded in getting into my desired department, but it wouldn’t have been this easy. Our teacher Mustafa also prepared us psychologically for the exams. I really want this course to be heard. Friends who will participate in the course should not miss the classes. This is a matter of discipline.”

“I feel an indescribable happiness”

Instructor Dr. Mustafa Bayık, providing information about the conservatory preparation course, said, “The İzmir Metropolitan Municipality supports our youth in all areas, including art. Conservatory preparation is a challenging endeavor. With this free course, we strive for our youth to develop themselves in the field of art. Since we started the training, 3 of our friends have become conservatory students. We announce through Young İzmir. Generally, we have a quota of 10 people. Our process started in February. Young people who applied for the course and were successful came here three days a week, and we conducted our lessons with piano. Last term, our student Nurmina Türk won a place in the Turkish Music Fundamental Sciences Department at Ege University State Conservatory. She was our first successful student, and she is currently continuing her education. This year, Ege and Bedirhan have also become university students by passing the special talent exams. For me, it is an indescribable happiness. In fact, I was the one who gave the news that Bedirhan passed the exam. Their families were overjoyed. Art education is a very special education. The İzmir Metropolitan Municipality has taken on a special mission to reach young people in this field. As an educator, I am very happy and proud to facilitate this.”
