“Celebrate your day to the fullest in a way befitting the national holiday”
In his speech during the celebrations, Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat stated, “Today is August 30 Victory Day, the day crowned with victory on the road to liberation, marking its 102nd year. Happy anniversary to all of us. Celebrate your day to the fullest in a way befitting the national holiday. We are together today with three mayors, and there is a meaning in our togetherness. Now we are in Beşiktaş, after Beşiktaş we will go to Şişli, and after Şişli, we will head to Beyoğlu. Our Great Leader Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk planned all the strategies of the War of Independence in this region. He developed the idea of the Republic in this area. On May 15, 1919, he left his house in Şişli, received his mother’s blessing in Akaretler, took the Galata Eagle Steamboat to board the Bandırma Ferry and started the War of Independence. He entrusted these three districts to his family, his dearest ones. Therefore, as local administrators, as mayors, we start each day in these three ancient cities with this sense of responsibility, and we carry out our work with this sense of duty. As long as we exist, as long as we breathe, we will continue to follow his path, live his principles, and keep his principles alive,” he expressed.
Şişli Mayor Resul Emrah Şahan said, “We will work together for a more beautiful Turkey, for a brighter future, and to celebrate more beautiful national holidays during the 2nd Century of the Republic.”
Beyoğlu Mayor İnan Güney, in his speech, stated, “I commemorate with mercy and gratitude all our martyrs, especially Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, his comrades in arms, and all those who paid the price for the Republic, who preferred to live independently rather than under another country’s flag, who sacrificed their lives for independence, saying ‘Either independence or death.’ I wish a happy Victory Day to all of us.”
