Hasan Tokses, who trades in Hatay, found a solution by writing “We do not have the key to the WC” on the window of his shop, as he was constantly asked for the key to the toilet next to his workplace.

Hasan Tokses, who lives in the Antakya district, restarted his life by establishing a business selling snack products in a prefabricated market set up by the Hatay Governorship after the disaster of the century. Next to Tokses’ workplace is a toilet used jointly by the tradespeople. When citizens coming to the prefabricated market need a toilet, the first thing that comes to their mind is to ask Tokses, who has a business next to the locked toilet, for the key. Tokses found a solution to the question he is asked multiple times a day, “Do you have the key to the toilet?” by hanging a sign that says “We do not have the key to the WC” on the window of his shop. Tokses, who has partially solved the issue with the sign he hung, stated that there are still those who ask him for the key.

“We are fed up because people keep asking for the key”

Hasan Tokses, who found a solution to people’s questions with the sign he hung on the window, said, “We write on this sign, ‘There is no key to the WC.’ We are fed up because people keep asking for the key. People come to shop, but there is no key to the toilet. The management gave the keys to the tradespeople. Sometimes we open it ourselves, but this is not the way. Ten to fifteen people ask daily. Sometimes it is countless. The number varies greatly. We wrote it on the sign, but still, it is empty. They still ask if there is a toilet key. People go to the toilet. They come without washing their hands, maybe they touch the key, and we might catch a disease from the key. For that reason, I say I don’t have the key. I have had this sign up for more than two months. I go and open it for the elderly myself. This situation needs to be resolved as soon as possible.”

Citizen Hasan Arslan, who saw the writing on the sign on the window, said, “I asked for the key for the toilet. He pulled me outside. He said, ‘Did you see the sign I hung?’ It says there is no key to the WC. A few people have come here and asked. Everyone is asking for the key. This is a workplace with a livelihood. This is not a toilet, yet people are asking.”
