August 30 Victory Day was celebrated in Balıkesir. The celebrations held in front of Atatürk Stadium began with Balıkesir Governor İsmail Ustaoğlu, Balıkesir Metropolitan Mayor Ahmet Akın, and Garrison Commander Air Major General Hüseyin Duman greeting the public and congratulating them on the holiday. The ceremonies continued with poetry readings and a folk dance performance by the students of July 15 Anatolian High School. During the ceremonies, gendarmerie commandos presented their performances accompanied by military marches. Soldiers greeting the public during the official parade received great applause. Speaking at the end of the ceremonies, Balıkesir Metropolitan Mayor Ahmet Akın said, “This is our August 30 Victory Day. May the places of all our heroes who became martyrs for this land be heaven. May the soul of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who made this land our homeland, be blessed. National unity and solidarity are essential throughout Balıkesir. The first bullet and the last bullet were fired on this land. We will continue on the path shown by Atatürk. I sincerely congratulate all our fellow citizens on Victory Day.”
The ceremonies were attended by Balıkesir Governor İsmail Ustaoğlu, Balıkesir Metropolitan Mayor Ahmet Akın, Garrison Commander Hüseyin Duman, Deputy Mayor Ferit Gündoğdu, Altıeylül Mayor Hakan Şehirli, Karesi Mayor Mesut Akbıyık, AK Party Provincial Chairman Mehmet Aydemir, CHP Provincial Chairman Erden Köybaşı, MHP Provincial Chairman Niyazi Tunç, Provincial Police Chief Hasan Yiğit, Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Nurettin Alkan, and many civil and military officials.
