Beekeepers in Batman have produced the world’s highest quality honey with government support.

In Batman’s Sason district, within the action plan for the development of beekeeping and increasing organic honey production, the honey obtained from the “Sample Product Sample District” project was determined to be the world’s highest quality honey due to its high proline and diastase enzyme values in the conducted analysis.

With 100% government support, the project was initiated in Cobet Plateau, known for its flora diversity at an altitude of 1950 meters, where honey was produced naturally without human intervention. After the harvest, samples were sent to the Environmental and Food Analysis Laboratory of İzmir Ege University Drug Development and Pharmacodynamics Research Application Center to determine the quality of the honey. The results pleased both the producers.

Sason District Governor Furkan Başar stated that the analysis report determined the honey’s high quality, revealing that the honey had a proline value of 1778 and a diastase enzyme value of 57.1.

Governor Başar said, “In Cöbet Plateau, we initiated the ‘sample product, sample district’ project with the support of our provincial governor. Within this project, we distributed hundreds of hives to our 12 producers with 100% grants. As a result of the efforts of our producers, we saw that the proline value of the high-quality honey we obtained reached a record level of 1778 from our analyses. Our project has started to yield fruits. Our honey producers have begun to market the high-quality honey they obtained and deliver it to our citizens. As the district governorate, we will continue to support all our producers involved in the project with the support of our provincial governorate. Within the scope of the project, we provided our producers with specially designed hives with pollen traps. Currently, our production continues in Cöbet Plateau, where endemic plant species are abundant. The quality of the honey we obtained this year is quite high. We have raised the quality of the honey produced in our district to the highest level. We will continue to announce the quality of our honey,” he said.

The honey producers expressed their happiness for obtaining very high-quality honey in the second year of the project initiated with government support. Barış Yaşar, one of the honey producers, stated, “Within the framework of the sample district, sample product project, our project, which we started in 2022 with the support of our governor, our district governorate, and our district agricultural directorate, has completed its second year. We have harvested our honey, which we obtained completely organically. The determination that the honey we obtained is a very high-quality honey as a result of the analyses has made us producers extremely happy. We thank everyone who has supported us in these efforts.”

The high-quality Sason honey produced naturally without human intervention in Sason was auctioned for 160,000 lira per kilogram at a festival held in the district last year.
