The expected possible earthquakes of magnitude 7 and above in Bingöl have begun with a regional drill supported by surrounding provinces, starting at midnight.

According to the scenario, an earthquake of magnitude 7.5 occurred in the Karlıova district. Immediately after the earthquake, many institutions, organizations, and NGOs in the city moved towards the Provincial Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD). At 00:15, following the scenario earthquake, Bingöl Governor Ahmet Hamdi Usta also arrived at the AFAD Provincial Directorate to gather information from district governors and relevant institution directors about the field survey in the center and districts. Again, due to the scenario, 7 provinces were affected by the earthquake, and regions not impacted by the earthquake will provide support to Bingöl.

Speaking about the earthquake drill of magnitude 7, which will continue throughout the day in the province and districts, Governor Ahmet Hamdi Usta stated, “Today we are conducting a regional drill here. As you know, Bingöl is one of the regions where earthquakes are frequently experienced. We are conducting a regional drill to be able to react to a potential disaster. As of 00:15, we experienced a disaster scenario in Bingöl-Karlıova Hacılar center. It is a disaster that affects the entire region. The 7 surrounding provinces were also impacted by this. Since provinces such as Erzincan, Tunceli, Erzurum, Elazığ, Muş, and Diyarbakır, including Bingöl, were affected, we cannot receive support from these provinces. Help and support will come from the second-tier provinces,” he said.

Activities in the drill will include interventions for rubble, fire, hospital evacuations, rockfalls, power outages, disruptions in mobile communications, CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear) operations, natural gas intervention work, visits to shelter areas and nutrition services, on-site monitoring of traffic accident intervention efforts, and rescue operations for citizens stranded on the Murat River.
