Due to the heavy rain that has been effective in Bahçelievler Hürriyet Neighborhood, houses have been flooded. While citizens are experiencing difficult moments, the district municipality teams are continuing their efforts to drain rainwater from the flooded houses.

The heavy rain that started in Istanbul and has been intermittently effective has negatively impacted life. Due to the heavy rain, some houses on Asmadalı Street in Bahçelievler Hürriyet Neighborhood were flooded. Citizens living in the basement floors had their homes submerged, and their belongings became unusable. Initially, citizens tried to drain the water from their homes with their own means. Later, following alerts, the municipality teams dispatched to the flooded houses began the drainage operations. It has been learned that the rainwater drainage efforts are still ongoing.

“We don’t know what to do”
Pınar Sosor, whose house was flooded after the heavy rain, stated, “The rain flooded the house. I have a disabled child. I have nowhere to go. I have neither white goods nor furniture left. I am in a bad situation with 3 children. We don’t know what to do. I go through this every time it rains. I ask the authorities to help. My sofa sets, washing machine, dishwasher, carpets, my bedroom, and the children’s room are soaked.”

“We are emptying the house with buckets”
Hediye Ertan, who expressed that she is a victim, said, “Suddenly, the house started to fill with water. We face the same problem every year. Water is coming from underground into the house. It’s blocked in the sewer due to the construction across the street. My children’s psychology is disturbed, I can’t stand it anymore. My neighbors come, and we are emptying the house with buckets.”

“In just 10 minutes of rain, the whole street was flooded”
Mehmet Şahin, who stated that his neighbors’ houses were flooded, said, “In just 10 minutes of rain, the whole street was flooded. Water overflowed into the basements. Our neighbors are very distressed. Their houses were flooded, and their belongings became unusable. Our neighbor’s apartment is also in a very bad situation.”
