University student Mert Can Altun, who has a 90% physical disability, opened an exhibition in Amsterdam using artificial intelligence that he learned by watching videos on social media.
In Gaziantep, university student Mert Can Altun opened an exhibition in Amsterdam using artificial intelligence despite his 90% physical disability. Thanks to a video he watched on social media, Altun was introduced to artificial intelligence and achieved great success with the support and opportunities he received.

“I found something to reflect my imagination”
Altun explained that he met artificial intelligence through a video by a content creator he watched on social media. He mentioned that while watching the video where the content creator introduced an AI that converts text into images, he said, “This is my field.” Mert Can shared, “I found something to reflect my imagination. From that day on, I started to learn about artificial intelligence technology and improved myself in this field. I began to produce artworks and cinematographic works with the help of artificial intelligence. I overcame the difficulties I experienced in using the keyboard with the voice typing feature of a translation program. The works I prepared with the help of artificial intelligence were exhibited at The Grey Space in the Middle art gallery in Amsterdam. I was very happy with this international success. I always thought negatively about my future, but this exhibition gave me hope. Right now, I have a dream and goal of shooting a science fiction film about Göbeklitepe. I continue to improve myself in scriptwriting classes for this goal. I recommend those who want to develop themselves in the artistic field to use their imagination and watch social media videos to learn about artificial intelligence programs. Despite my physical disability, I found the opportunity to develop myself with the support of the university’s faculty members,” he said.
The story of Mert Can Altun, a third-year student in the Radio, Television, and Cinema department of Hasan Kalyoncu University, demonstrates that physical barriers can be overcome and that artificial intelligence can be a powerful tool.
