One of the most important projects in Kars, the approximately 780 million lira project, which will purify 50 thousand cubic meters of water daily and will give life to the Kars River upon completion, is 45% completed.

With the project, the Kars River, which will come to life, will flow crystal clear by being cleansed of waste that emits foul odors. The project marks an important step in environmental protection in the city. Work is ongoing at modern biological treatment plants to improve the water quality of the Kars River, which flows through the city center, and to protect its ecosystem. AK Party Member of Parliament Adem Çalkın examined the Biological Wastewater Treatment Plants under construction in the Dereiçi area. After receiving information from the authorities, Çalkın made statements to İhlas News Agency (IHA).

“We will not encounter those bad smells and that sight in our Kars River again.”
Çalkın stated that despite cost-saving measures, work at the treatment plants continues unabated. Thanking President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı for their support, MP Adem Çalkın said, “Today we are at the construction site of the Kars Biological Wastewater Treatment Plants commissioned by our Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. I received information from the authorities about the current status of the facility. Today, of course, this is one of the most vital and important projects for our Kars. It was essential to eliminate the foul waste and the ugly sight flowing into our Kars River. We laid the foundation for this facility in 2023. As you can see, our construction has progressed significantly. God willing, within a few years, we will complete this facility and, hopefully, we will never encounter those bad odors and that sight in our Kars River again. I would like to thank everyone involved, especially our President and our Minister of Agriculture and Forestry. We will continue to serve Kars with great enthusiasm.”

With the completion of the biological treatment facility, the Kars River is expected to become cleaner, healthier, and more aesthetically pleasing. The project stands out as an indicator of an environmentally conscious city understanding. Once completed, the approximately 780 million lira project will purify 50 thousand cubic meters of water daily before it is released into the Kars River, allowing the river to flow crystal clear. Additionally, work is ongoing on a 17.49-kilometer collector line that will ensure the transportation of domestic wastewater from the existing wastewater collection line to the treatment facility.

The Kars Biological Wastewater Treatment Plants, which are planned to be completed by the end of 2025, will ensure that pollution originating from domestic sources is removed and that the treated water is discharged into the Kars River in accordance with regulations, subsequently flowing into the Kars dam. The treated water will also be used to irrigate agricultural lands in the Kars Plain.
