In Adıyaman, which ranks among the top almond producers in Turkey, the almond harvest has begun on a total of 100,000 decares of land. Almond producers, who are experiencing the excitement of the harvest, expect a yield of around 20,000 tons this year.

The almond harvest has started on a total of 100,000 decares of land in Adıyaman. The first harvest was made in a 330-decare almond orchard established near the village of Belören in the Kahta district. Kahta District Governor Muhammed Üsame Soysal, who participated in the almond harvest in Belören village, wished for a fruitful harvest and stated that the government stands by all farmers engaged in production.

“This year, we expect a yield of over 20,000 tons.”

Kahta Almond Union President Mehmet Sena Yıldırım pointed out that producers did not profit last year due to prices, stating, “Almond cultivation is carried out on 100,000 decares in Adıyaman in total. We expect a yield of over 20,000 tons this year. Our producers are generally harvesting almonds. In this regard, the yield and efficiency look good. However, the producers are worried. There is a concern that, as with other products, we might also face a serious price problem with almonds. Last year, due to price issues, 2,000 decares of almond orchards were uprooted in Kahta, and 5,000 almond orchards throughout Adıyaman were removed. If a good price does not occur this year and if almond producers incur losses again, of course, uprootings will continue. Nothing will be done in place of the uprooted orchards, meaning there is no alternative product choice. Because all products are losing.”

Kahta District Governor Muhammed Üsame Soysal expressed that the government always supports producers and stands by them, saying, “Currently, about 10% of the cultivated area in Turkey is in our district’s almond area. Therefore, we, as the government, give great importance to this. Half of the total almond cultivation area in Adıyaman is in our district. Therefore, our support for farmers and producers will always be there, especially in this regard. We want to emphasize this. On this occasion, we hope that the almond harvests in 2024 will be abundant and fruitful for our farmers. We wish good earnings to all our farmers, and may it be auspicious.
