In the city of Şehzadeler Manisa, the Yunusemre Sarma-Davutlar Dam, which will provide approximately 75 million additional income to the regional economy by supplying water to 9,920 decares of land, is nearing completion step by step. The project, where concrete cladding works on the front face are ongoing, is expected to be completed in the first months of the new year.
The General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSİ) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry is working diligently to promote modern irrigation in agriculture, to maximize the benefits from agricultural lands through consolidation efforts, to provide healthy and drinkable water to taps, and to protect settlements and agricultural lands from flood risks, while also ensuring that every drop of water is valued with a sustainable water management approach. Within this scope, the DSİ is nearing completion of the Yunusemre Sarma-Davutlar Dam, which will provide approximately 75 million additional income to the regional economy by supplying water to 9,920 decares of land.
“Target: 2025”
DSİ General Director Mehmet Akif Balta stated that the work at the dam is proceeding at full speed according to the planned schedule, saying, “Last year, we completed the body fill of the Sarma-Davutlar Dam and reached a physical realization rate of 70%. As of May, we started the concrete cladding works on the front face. First, we completed the joint impermeability details of the body. Currently, we are continuing the reinforcement laying processes on the body. We will soon start the concrete cladding works as well.”
Noting that approximately 10,000 to 12,000 cubic meters of concrete will be poured into the body of the Sarma-Davutlar Dam as part of the project, DSİ General Director Mehmet Akif Balta stated that they aim to complete the concrete cladding works on the front face of the body by the New Year.
DSİ General Director Mehmet Akif Balta also delivered good news to the producers in Manisa, saying that they plan to start holding water in the Yunusemre Sarma-Davutlar Dam in the first months of the new year.
“75 million lira additional income for farmers in Manisa”
Stating that the regional producers will smile with the completion of the project, DSİ General Director Mehmet Akif Balta said, “We will provide water to 9,920 decares of land from the Sarma-Davutlar Dam. Our regional farmers will have access to cleaner and much cheaper water. Production costs will decrease. Our farmers in Manisa will gain an average of 75 million lira in additional income based on 2024 figures.”
Will store 18.5 million cubic meters of water
The dam, built on the Sarma River near the Davutlar neighborhood of the Yunusemre district, is designed as a rock fill type with a concrete-clad front face. Approximately 723,000 cubic meters of fill have been made for the dam, which has a height of 47.5 meters from the foundation. The Sarma-Davutlar Dam will be able to store 18 million 570 thousand cubic meters of water.
