The aronia plants planted in Erzincan three years ago have grown and are now being harvested.
The fruit, which has become a sought-after superfruit in grocery stores worldwide, is particularly consumed heavily by cancer patients, and is now being harvested in Erzincan.
The aronia fruit is also known as a superfruit around the world. Aronia provides many health benefits. It is highlighted as a source of Vitamin C and antioxidants. It is also considered one of the culture fruits rich in minerals, fibers, and antioxidant content. Aronia has immune-boosting properties and increases resistance against colds and flu infections. As a superfruit globally, aronia is especially preferred by cancer patients.
Güven Bilyay, who cultivates aronia in Bahçeliköy, a district connected to the center of Erzincan, is experiencing the joy of starting the harvest. Bilyay, who has worked to promote aronia fruit, noted that aronia is an extremely suitable species for cultivation in Erzincan. Starting the harvest in his 4-decare aronia garden, Bilyay stated that the consumption of aronia, which is consumed worldwide, is also increasing in Turkey. The producer Bilyay emphasized that the benefits of aronia are countless and mentioned that this year’s harvest season has begun with a pleasing yield. He expressed that they are meeting the demands in Erzincan with the first products harvested and stated that the kilogram price of aronia in retail sales is 200 TL.
Bilyay mentioned that the products produced are currently in high demand in Erzincan and that all harvested products are consumed in the domestic market, saying, “For now, we are struggling to meet the demands coming from within the city. If we have excess production, we will send it to other cities as well.”
