Ege University, one of the oldest higher education institutions in Turkey, plays a pioneering role not only in science but also in culture and art.

With its cultural and artistic activities, Ege University contributes to the culture and arts of the region and the country, training qualified educators, academics, and artists who transfer the values of traditional music, dance, and musical instrument culture to future generations using scientific methods. In addition, the university sheds light on history with the museums it hosts. Emphasizing that Ege University has made significant leaps in education, teaching, and research and development areas recently, Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Budak stated that important successes have been achieved not only in scientific fields but also in culture, art, and sports. Rector Budak said, “Ege University contributes scientifically to our country in almost every field, especially in health, medicine, agriculture, engineering, and basic sciences. Our university, which stands out in every field from education to literature, communication to fine arts, music to sports sciences, operates in a campus environment that is intertwined with society and the city. It shares its academic competence and potential, as well as its cultural and artistic accumulation, with the entire city from Bornova to Konak, from Gaziemir to Urla, from Bergama to Tire. Our fully accredited, student-centered research university, which plays an important role in the region it is named after in addition to education, research, and development, hosts comprehensive organizations. It provides art lovers the opportunity to closely get to know many branches of art through exhibitions, panels, talks, stage events, and workshops organized in various centers of Izmir. I believe that the Ege University International EgeArt Days organization, which has become a tradition and spreads to many points in Izmir, is one of the best examples of this.”

Rector Budak emphasized that many public cultural and artistic programs are held every year under the auspices of Ege University in venues such as MÖTBE Cultural Center, Culture and Arts House, Atatürk Cultural Center, Paper and Book Arts Museum, and Ethnography Museum, stating that events such as concerts, exhibitions, talks, and theater have brought distinguished names devoted to culture and art together with participants. Rector Budak expressed that the museums within Ege University host some of the rarest collections.

“A conservatory providing education at a universal level”

Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Budak stated that the State Turkish Music Conservatory conducts education, research, and artistic activities at a universal level, training qualified artists and scientists, saying, “Our university’s State Turkish Music Conservatory, the second academic institution established in Turkey for the purpose of providing Turkish music education, conducts scientific studies related to the field on one hand while training competent educators, academics, and artists who will transfer the values of traditional music, games, and instrument culture to future generations using scientific methods on the other. It develops our country’s cultural and artistic richness and passes it on to future generations.”

Rector Budak emphasized that they provide all kinds of environments for students to benefit from Ege University’s accumulation, stating, “We provide all kinds of support to help our students utilize their free time with social, cultural, and artistic activities and at the same time gain knowledge and skills. Based on the demands of our youth, especially our student communities, we host famous names in many events from concerts to festivals, from artists to writers.
