This year, the sixth Mudanya Book Fair will bring together literature and art enthusiasts under the theme of “Change” from August 23 to 28.

Organized by the Mudanya Municipality with the theme “Change / A New Perspective, A New Understanding”, the fair will connect book lovers with Turkey’s leading publishers, authors, and academics. The fair will start with an opening ceremony on Friday, August 23, at 19:00 and will take place at Mütareke Square and İsmet İnönü Park. Over six days filled with discussions, book signing events, children’s workshops, book donation boxes, an open-air library, music, and theater events, Mudanya will once again become the center of culture and art.

“Change happens through reading”

Mudanya Mayor Deniz Dalgıç emphasized that this year’s theme is ‘Change’, pointing out that societal transformation and change occur through reading, researching, and questioning. Noting the deep desire for change in Turkey, Dalgıç stated, “We will discuss with our guests how we should progress for a new Turkey and what needs to be done on this new path. We invite all book lovers to our fair in Mütareke Square, the heart of Mudanya, to draw a new vision for the future.” Dalgıç also invited book lovers from Istanbul, saying, “Transportation from Istanbul to Mudanya is quite easy with fast ferry services. We welcome everyone who wants to breathe literature in Mütareke Square, where our museum, which commemorates the Mudanya Armistice, where the world acknowledges that we won the War of Independence, is located, while enjoying our historical and natural beauties during the weekend holiday.”

A light will be shed on the future

On the first day of the fair, which will be held under the theme “Change”, Ömer Madra, the General Director of Açık Radyo, will meet with the people of Bursa in a talk titled “Civilization, Modernization and Change: From Where to Where?” Throughout the six days, poets, writers, journalists, and academics such as Ayşe Kulin, Ahmet Ümit, Işıl Özgentürk, Prof. Dr. Emrah Safa Gürkan, Prof. Dr. Sinan Canan, Prof. Dr. Betül Tanbay, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Şahin, Yüksel Baysal, Melike Baysal, Lawyer Mehmet Berke Eryılmaz, Duygu Özsüphandağ Yayman, Şaban Akbaba, İlker Özaslan, Buğra Küçükkayalar, Hilmi Haşal, Halim Çiftçi, and Kibare Altay will come together with book lovers. Additionally, the book fair will feature concerts by music groups Black Ebony, Nehir, Onion, and a play by Bergama Kozak Yukarıbey Village Theater.
