Fishermen from Çanakkale have completed their final preparations just days before the end of the fishing ban. With the fishing season starting on September 1, a surplus is expected on the stalls, while the maintenance and preparations of the boats at Kemer village port were captured by a drone.
The fishing ban, which began on April 15, will end on September 1. Fishermen have completed all their preparations. Many fishermen at the port of Kemer village, which is part of Biga district, gathered their crews. Nets covered with tarpaulins on the dock were opened and repaired. The nets were given to the winch of the trawlers, taken onto the boats, and made ready for fishing. The maintenance of the boats at the port was filmed by a drone. The fishermen from Çanakkale will say ‘Vira Bismillah’ on September 1. They will set out to sea on the evening of August 31 and will start fishing when the clock strikes 00:00.
Nadir Karabiber, captain of the trawler named ‘Çalı Balıkçılık’, said, “We have just a little left to complete our preparations. We have been waiting with great excitement for four and a half months. We worked hard with all our might. We are making our preparations. Now it’s the last days, the last hours, we are waiting. The maintenance of the boats and nets has been done. The boats were pulled ashore and painted. The nets were repaired again. The conditions are tough, costs are very high. This year, we expect a lot of bonito from the sea. Sardines are abundant in the Sea of Marmara, and we see young mackerel. There will be all kinds of fish. I have been a fisherman since 1985. My principle is that if the sun rises from the East, there will be fish.”
Sami Koç, captain of a trawler in Kemer village, stated, “We painted our boats. We are preparing our equipment. We have made our net repairs. We are excitedly waiting for the season to open. This year, there will be plenty of bonito in the seas. There will be a lot of young mackerel. The anchovies are a bit less compared to previous years, but we are hopeful about that too.”
