Esenyurt Mayor Prof. Dr. Ahmet Özer, who continues his efforts to elevate Esenyurt to higher levels in social municipalism, continues to stand by the citizens in need. In this context, a joint initiative with the İBB Istanbul Foundation was carried out to distribute aid packages and roasted meat to citizens in need.
Esenyurt Municipality, which continues its efforts in the field of social municipalism without slowing down, continues to provide food packages and roasted meat assistance to the needy citizens in the district. Visiting the Yıldız Soup Kitchen to oversee the operations, Esenyurt Mayor Prof. Dr. Ahmet Özer emphasized that they will not leave any door unknocked in the district and that they will always stand by disadvantaged groups. In his statement here, Mayor Özer said, “The service we provide here is a necessity for a healthy life. According to international standards, these needs should be met by the state. Unfortunately, we have been facing problems in the understanding of the social state for a long time, and we, as municipalities, are trying to fill this gap through social municipalism.”
“This is not a luxury”
In his speech, Esenyurt Mayor Prof. Dr. Ahmet Özer emphasized that everyone has the right to live with human dignity, saying, “As you know, unfortunately, the price of meat has reached a thousand lira per kilogram. Therefore, not everyone can buy meat from the butcher or the market. However, everyone has the right to live with dignity in this country, in this city. According to the rules of the United Nations, the amount of protein that every person needs to consume daily to survive biologically is determined. This is not a luxury; it is a mandatory necessity for a healthy life. According to international standards, these needs should also be met by the state. Unfortunately, we have been facing problems in the understanding of the social state for a long time, and we are trying to address this gap through social municipalism.”
“He who sleeps full while his neighbor is hungry is not one of us”
Stating that they have been working tirelessly since the day they took office, especially for disadvantaged groups and the poor, Prof. Dr. Özer used the following expressions: “We are trying to support our fellow citizens who are particularly in need and below the poverty line. Both in our religion and in our traditions, there is a principle that says ‘he who sleeps full while his neighbor is hungry is not one of us.’ Therefore, while laying asphalt, building sidewalks, and opening parks as part of municipal services, we must also consider disadvantaged groups and the poor. Today, we are fulfilling this responsibility. The ten thousand aid packages and ten thousand roasted meat packages you see here will be delivered to those in need within approximately ten days. I wish them all a good appetite in advance. Our municipality’s services of this kind will continue uninterrupted. We will carry on our efforts without stopping or resting until we bring our motto ‘The Heart of Social Municipalism is Esenyurt’ to life.
