In the second week of the Süper Lig, Fatih Özkan, who pushed down Fenerbahçe Sports Club President Ali Koç from behind during the second half of the match played between Göztepe and Fenerbahçe, apologized to Ali Koç in a written statement.
Göztepe faced Fenerbahçe at Gürsel Aksel Stadium in the second week of the Süper Lig. Instead of football, the events overshadowed the match. At the end of the first half, Fenerbahçe Sports Club President Ali Koç and his accompanying delegation went to the section where Fenerbahçe fans, who were not allowed into the match, were seated. At that moment, Göztepe fans reacted fiercely. Later, as the second half began, while Ali Koç and his accompanying delegation were moving towards the protocol area from the sidelines, Fatih Özkan, who was on duty at the stadium with a Göztepe accreditation card, pushed Ali Koç from behind, causing him to fall. After this incident, the İzmir Provincial Police Department’s Sports Security Branch teams detained Özkan, and he was released under judicial control after giving his statement to the prosecutor’s office. Fatih Özkan announced in a written statement that he apologized to both communities. The statement included the following expressions:
“I would like it to be known that I am extremely sorry for being a part of the heinous incident that occurred during the match played between the two esteemed clubs of our football on 17/08/24, which continues to occupy the public’s attention. To prevent the public from being further preoccupied with this incident and to avoid harming the supporters of both esteemed clubs, I respectfully announce to the public that I apologize to Göztepe Sports Club, of which I am a member, club honorary president Mehmet Sepil, Fenerbahçe Sports Club president Ali Koç, and the entire Fenerbahçe community.”
