CHP Chairman Özel: “We are calling for a meeting for the session in which Can Atalay’s status as a member of parliament will be confirmed by the Assembly and Numan Kurtulmuş.”
Republican People’s Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel stated, “We are calling for a meeting for the session in which Numan Kurtulmuş will confirm that Can Atalay is a member of parliament.” Özel made these remarks during a Social Democratic meeting held at the CHP Central Headquarters.
The General Chairman of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), Özgür Özel, stated, “We are calling the Parliament and Numan Kurtulmuş to a session where Can Atalay’s status as a deputy will be confirmed.”
Özel made statements regarding the agenda before the Social Democratic Municipalities Coordination Council Meeting held at the CHP Headquarters.
Before his speech, Özel pinned the badge of Independent Adana Deputy Bilal Bilici, who joined the CHP after resigning from the IYI Party.
“I once again expressed our satisfaction with Mahmud Abbas’s visit to Turkey”
Noting that they had a phone conversation with Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas, Özel said, “I once again expressed our satisfaction with his visit to Turkey. I mentioned that I could not attend the session that day due to the accident I had, but our Parliamentary Group was present there, and I listened to his speech later, expressing my satisfaction with what he said. I stated, as in all our foreign contacts, that we support an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital during the phone conversation we had with him.”
“I hope we will prepare to visit Palestine before the end of this month”
Özel mentioned that they had a request regarding going to Palestine that they postponed until after the elections, saying, “I will reiterate that request to Abbas, who responded, ‘We are the ones who know best the friendship between Bülent Ecevit and Yasser Arafat, the solidarity that CHP youth in Turkey have shown with Palestine, and what the CHP has done recently. We have recently realized that the CHP is a window that conveys the voice of Palestine to the West. You have the responsibility not to ask for an appointment from Palestine but to determine the day you will come to Palestine, and we will have the responsibility to welcome you here because this place is both Turkey’s and the CHP’s second homeland. Whenever you want to come to your second homeland, just set the date, we will be here.’ I hope we will make the necessary preparations to visit Palestine before the end of this month and go there with a strong delegation.”
“Blood was spilled at that session”
Özel spoke about the General Assembly Meeting of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, which convened at the request of the CHP on August 16, saying, “Blood was spilled at that session. One cannot find the words to say it, but blood was shed on the marble of the Parliament. Violence against women was present at that session. We are ashamed of those who brought that day to the parliament. We completely reject this mentality.”
“We are calling the Parliament and Numan Kurtulmuş to a session where Can Atalay’s status as a deputy will be confirmed”
Stating that they are calling the Grand National Assembly of Turkey to meet again, Özel said, “We are calling the Parliament and Numan Kurtulmuş to a session where Can Atalay’s status as a deputy will be confirmed. We are calling for a meeting to inscribe that decision in the minutes, stating that there is no need to even read it. It would be great if the MHP comes, we will wait, but if they don’t come, that’s fine too. They did not come last time, and they went down in history like that. They know how they will be remembered this time. If there is a sense of reason and conscience within the AK Party, there is a place for them above our heads. The nation has already assigned them to come to that hall, work, and do what is necessary. We will all see whether the Speaker of the Parliament, who has a duty of neutrality, will do what he believes or will bow to the pressures he has faced until today.
