In Erzincan, with the “Farm at School” project, little students have started harvesting vegetables.
The “Farm at School” project, initiated through a protocol signed between the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the Ministry of National Education, has begun vegetable harvesting by students.
The project aims to raise awareness among children about agriculture, forestry, nature, and natural life, to make them conscious, to develop a sense of belonging, and to motivate them to take action.
The project covers 28 provinces across the country, with one school and one class designated in each province. In Erzincan, the project was implemented at Demirkent TOKİ Primary School. A greenhouse was established in the school garden as the second phase of the project, where vegetable seedlings were planted by the students.
During the summer vacation, the maintenance of the vegetable seedlings planted in the Demirkent Primary School garden as part of the “Farm at School” project was carried out by the School Principal Ahmet Sağsöz and the students.
With the interest and love of the students, the seedlings planted in the greenhouse began to grow and produce vegetables. Students who started harvesting vegetables experienced the joy and excitement of participating in production. The students of Demirkent Primary School expressed that they loved growing vegetables in the greenhouse and said, “We learned to grow vegetables too.”
Murat Şahin, the Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry in Erzincan, stated, “With this project, it was aimed for children to raise awareness about agriculture, forestry, and nature, to become conscious, to develop a sense of belonging, and to take action. The greenhouse we established in Demirkent TOKİ Primary School is very valuable for us as it includes our children in the production processes through practical training. Our children have succeeded in producing in the greenhouse from scratch. This is very important both for them and for our country. I congratulate all our students.”
