The retired Intelligence Colonel, Security and Terrorism Expert Coşkun Başbuğ, who reacted strongly to CHP Member of Parliament Namık Tan’s use of the term “fairy tale” regarding the Blue Homeland, stated, “No Turkish child, no child of this homeland would say such words; because this is directly the mouth of America, directly the mouth of the West. It is the Turkish-ized version of the language they speak. For this reason, the Greek media cannot fit Namık Tan into the ground right now. He served in the U.S. for 4 years, was he so influenced by America?”
The use of the term “fairy tale” by CHP Istanbul MP Namık Tan regarding the “Blue Homeland” drew criticism. Evaluating this expression, retired Intelligence Colonel, Security and Terrorism Expert Coşkun Başbuğ emphasized the importance of the Blue Homeland.
“The Blue Homeland; the maritime borders are the same as the National Pact borders on land.”
Reacting harshly to the statements, Başbuğ said that he could not believe these words when he first heard them. Coşkun Başbuğ stated, “I don’t know if Namık Tan speaks unknowingly or knowingly; but if he does not know, let him learn from here. The Blue Homeland is the same as the maritime borders of the National Pact on land. The concept of the Blue Homeland surfaced more prominently with the operation we called the Mediterranean Shield Operation in 2006. Our people heard it; but actually, in 1947, Truman presented it as a thesis to formalize America’s oil explorations to be conducted west of the continent. He said, ‘Let’s establish the principles with an international agreement here. Everyone should know where they have rights and sovereignty.’ It was a logical approach. Then, with the 1956 Geneva Legal Convention, it turned into law. Turkey defined its sovereign territory according to these laws. Now we have places in the Black Sea, the Aegean Sea, and the Mediterranean that are our rights under these laws. If you now call the places we call homeland a “fairy tale,” then someone might ask you, ‘Are you really a child of this homeland? Do you really feel you belong to this homeland?'”
“This is directly the mouth of America, directly the mouth of the West.”
Stating that “No Turkish child would say such words,” Security and Terrorism Expert Coşkun Başbuğ remarked, “Is this the first time in the Republican People’s Party? No. Ünal Çeviköz made statements that would make Namık Tan rest in peace and compete with him. It is impossible for Namık Tan not to know about the Blue Homeland. Why? The founder leader of the party, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, presents three choices in such situations; negligence, delusion, and betrayal. Now negligence can happen in someone who is just starting in politics; but there is no possibility of negligence in someone who has served as an ambassador in Tel Aviv and Washington and claims to be a child of this homeland, working in important positions in a significant party like the Republican People’s Party. What is left? Delusion and betrayal. I don’t know the meaning of delusion very well. It must be what Namık Tan did; because there is no explanation for this. No Turkish child, no child of this homeland would say such words; because this is directly the mouth of America, directly the mouth of the West. It is the Turkish-ized version of the language they speak. That is why the Greek media cannot fit Namık Tan into the ground right now,” he expressed.
“I’ve noticed this; he is also against operations. Are you really a child of this homeland?”
Expressing that he has listened to Namık Tan’s speeches many times, Coşkun Başbuğ pointed out a matter, stating, “I’ve noticed this; he is also against operations. He starts speaking like this. ‘Syria; as if cross-border movements are not enough,’ he says. Apparently, he has a discomfort there too. Cross-border movements have changed the structure of the region today, changed the shape of history. Therefore, you are uncomfortable with everything related to the country’s interests, not just the Blue Homeland. Then I question and will question. Are you really a child of this homeland? It is time to say this openly. Why? These are not words that a Turkish child would say. If I were in Özgür Özel’s place, I would not only prevent Ünal Çeviköz and Namık Tan from holding positions in the party, but I would not even let them pass by the party building,” he stated.
Lastly, Başbuğ continued as follows:
“Namık Tan has served in the U.S. for 4 years. I believe he was greatly influenced. He continues to exist as someone who has been engaged in the American system. Was he really so influenced by America? My advice to Namık Tan is to research thoroughly.
