Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Salihli District President Halil Tüfek stated that CHP’s Salihli Mayor Mazlum Nurlu has fallen into contradiction between his unlawful dismissals and mobbing practices and what he said in election rallies, saying, “Do not play with the dignity of employees, ensure work peace. Put an end to pressures and exiles, take off your party badge and treat everyone equally. The people of Salihli expect you to fulfill your services and election promises.”

Meeting with party members in front of the MHP Salihli District building, MHP District President Halil Tüfek explained that Erkan Keskin, a technician working in the Salihli Municipality’s Directorate of Science Affairs, was assigned to the Zoning Directorate to count vehicles at intersections with a temporary assignment letter and was hospitalized after fainting from the extreme heat. Tüfek claimed that Salihli Mayor Mazlum Nurlu has been applying ‘pressure and mobbing to employees’ since the day he took office, saying:

“During the process of the local elections on March 31, 2024, the Mayor Mazlum Nurlu, who asked for votes by saying that he would not pressure any workers and civil servants working in the Salihli Municipality, would not play with their bread, and would not touch those who perform their duties with integrity, has contradicted himself with the unlawful dismissals and mobbing practices he has implemented within his four-month tenure. As of April, it has become unacceptable to have systematic pressures on our worker brothers and civil servants who are just doing their jobs, along with the addition of these sad incidents, which we have closely followed through our lawyers, necessitating a press statement.”

“They resigned due to pressures”

Tüfek continued his statement:

“We are also monitoring that municipal personnel, who are civil servants, are being sent to different places, being taken from their specialized jobs and given other duties, and verbal unlawful orders are being given by going directly to the construction sites. These individuals are being tortured by being made to perform their duties under the most severe conditions, psychologically worn out, and continually changing their places of duty. Many of our worker brothers have had to resign due to these pressures. While preparing to dismiss even those who have reached retirement rights with fabricated disciplinary investigations, our lawyers’ quick and effective intervention has prevented workers from losing their rights. We have all seen how local and national media reported the mobbing applied in relation to the recent incident and how the public reacted strongly. As long as this torment continues, we will follow up and put an end to the oppression. These partisan behaviors not only disrupt the functioning of the municipality but also damage work peace. Is this the so-called justice of Hz. Omar promised and distributed to the people of Salihli in election rallies? Our aim is not to fight with you, but to expect the services that our Salihli deserves from you. We already support the proposals you bring for the services you will provide to Salihli as MHP in the municipal council,” he said.

“Ensure work peace”

Tüfek requested Mayor Nurlu to ensure work peace in the municipality, saying, “Mr. Nurlu, you are a lawyer; never forget that one day the law will also be necessary for you. The people of Salihli have expected you to serve them by voting for you, but you are still playing with the bread of the employees and intimidating people. Do not play with the dignity of employees, ensure work peace. Put an end to pressures and exiles, take off your party badge and treat everyone equally. The people of Salihli expect you to fulfill your services and election promises. As the MHP Salihli District Organization, we will follow the legal processes to the end with our managers, our unions, and our lawyers. Do not forget that the court is not the owner of the judge.”

After the statement, CHP Mayor Mazlum Nurlu visited the party members in front of the MHP building with his deputy mayors and held discussions on the matter.
