Visit to small family farms in Erzincan Agriculture

Erzincan Agriculture and Forestry Provincial Director Murat Sahin visited small family businesses engaged in animal production in the Yaylabaşı neighborhood and met with the producers.

Turkey has an agricultural structure dominated by small agricultural enterprises, where family labor-based production systems are maintained in most of the country. The Erzincan agricultural sector largely consists of small family businesses.

Family farmers provide the majority of food produced in the world, being the largest investor group in agriculture and the backbone of rural economic structure. Family farming plays a key role in both reviving the local economy and ensuring the continuity of agricultural production. There are approximately 570 million farms in the world, more than 500 million of which, or 90%, are operated as family farms. These are primarily small household enterprises that rely entirely or largely on family labor and produce 80% of the total food in the world.

Erzincan Agriculture and Forestry Provincial Director Murat Sahin visited small family businesses engaged in animal production in the Yaylabaşı neighborhood and met with producers. Provincial Director Murat Sahin conducted examinations in the family businesses of producers Süleyman Pak and Yasem Köhne in Yaylabaşı neighborhood and emphasized the importance of small-scale family businesses for both the agricultural sector and the economy.

Emphasizing that the agricultural sector in Turkey is generally based on small family businesses, Director Sahin stated, “Our small family businesses in the agricultural sector are very valuable to us. They are the insurance of the sector. The sustainability of production is always ensured by our small family businesses. Our ministry always continues its support for these family businesses. In regions like Erzincan, these family businesses play extremely important roles in the performance of the city economy.”
