The General Directorate of Samsun Metropolitan Municipality Water and Sewerage Administration (SASKİ) is continuing its rehabilitation work to reduce flood risk in the Sazak Stream, which is 484 meters long.

SASKİ, which started the foundation manufacturing last month and has completed 120 meters of it and 108 meters of curtain manufacturing, aims to finish the rehabilitation work by the end of the year. Halit Doğan, the Mayor of the Metropolitan Municipality, stated that the location of the stream is strategically important and that the work is continuing with great care.

SASKİ General Directorate, which places great importance on stream rehabilitation against floods and inundations that may occur during heavy rainfall, is trying to control the flow of water in many streams with these rehabilitations. Within the scope of the Various Stream Rehabilitation Project, SASKİ is working on the Kışla and Sazak Streams and is nearing completion on Kışla Stream in the İlkadım district.

Foundation and curtain manufacturing is ongoing

In the Sazak Stream, which has a rainfall area of 305 hectares located in the Körfez neighborhood of Atakum district, SASKİ teams are deepening and widening the stream bed while performing foundation and curtain manufacturing. The intensive teams have completed 120 meters of the foundation manufacturing, which is 50 cm thick and 4.80 cm wide, and 108 meters of the 4-meter high curtain manufacturing. The remaining 364 meters of the route is expected to be completed by the end of the year. With this investment, SASKİ General Directorate will control the water and ensure its rapid discharge into the sea, thereby minimizing both the risk of loss of life and material damage in potential floods.

Completion is targeted by the end of the year

Providing information about the manufacturing works in Sazak Stream, Samsun Metropolitan Mayor Halit Doğan stated, “Considering global warming and climate change, we attach great importance to rainwater infrastructure lines and stream rehabilitation works in our infrastructure programs. For this reason, we continue our rehabilitation works in all our streams that carry risks. One of them is the Sazak Stream in Atakum district. It is strategically important due to its route. We want to complete the rehabilitation works in the stream, which has residential and business areas around it, as quickly as possible. Our teams are working meticulously. We aim to finish by the end of the year.”
