SAMSUN (İHA) – Fishermen who spend the inter-season with cage fish have started to observe the path of the horse mackerel, which they hope will be abundant this year.
Last year, the horse mackerel disappointed both sellers and consumers, but it has started to be seen in the Black Sea. Fishermen who will open the season on September 1 with the phrase ‘Vira Bismillah’ hope that this fishing season will be the season of horse mackerel, while sellers who spend the inter-season selling cage fish dream of selling plenty of horse mackerel starting from September 1.
Fish seller Onurcan Köse, who stated that they are currently waiting for the season by selling cage fish, said, “The weather is warm. Our fish sales are at a manageable level. Salmon is sold at 90 TL per kilo, trout at 80 TL, sea bass at 200 TL, gilthead bream at 250 TL, and freshwater bass at 100 TL. Due to the warm weather, there are times when sales stagnate. Citizens prefer salmon the most because it is filling and cheap. In other cities, the price of salmon can go up to 200 TL per kilo. In Samsun, we offer it to citizens at 90 TL.”

“We think there will be plenty of horse mackerel this season, but no anchovies” Köse noted that unlike last year, they believe this season will see an abundance of horse mackerel but no anchovies. “Our hope for the new season is horse mackerel. Horse mackerel has started to show itself gradually. Hopefully, we expect that horse mackerel will be abundant this season. If it is abundant, it will make both us and the citizens happy. Last year there was no horse mackerel at all, anchovies were abundant. This year, we think there will be plenty of horse mackerel and no anchovies. Generally, either horse mackerel or anchovies are abundant. We have never seen a season where both are abundant.”
