Artificial intelligence, which affects the world in every field, will also reshape education. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ergün Akgün, a faculty member of BAU Faculty of Education Sciences, stated that student success can be predicted with the new technology.

The impact of artificial intelligence technologies, which have started to be used in many fields and sectors, on education has become a subject of curiosity. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ergün Akgün from Bahçeşehir University Faculty of Education Sciences mentioned that the learning experience will be personalized based on AI-driven student data, thus providing more effective education to students.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ergün Akgün said that technology has developed to predict student success with artificial intelligence, stating, “Artificial intelligence will go beyond the learning experience confined to the four walls of the classroom as we know it today. By providing guidance based on AI-driven student data, learning experiences will be personalized, thus offering students a more effective learning experience while reducing the workload of teachers. Although it is predicted that many professions will disappear with the increase in the use of artificial intelligence technology, teachers will continue to exist as experts who will ensure the integration of AI and guide students.”

Akgün emphasized that artificial intelligence is opening the door to profound changes in every area of life today, and education will be directly affected by this profound change. He stated that various curriculum development studies, teacher training, and policy development activities have gained significant momentum recently to adapt quickly to this change.

Artificial intelligence can predict students’ success

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ergün Akgün noted that the ability of AI applications to utilize phases considered fundamental to education, such as data-driven student success analysis and prediction, personalized learning experience, content creation, and automatic evaluation, is an exciting development. He pointed out that AI and big data algorithms can predict students’ future success with high accuracy based on various data from past learning experiences, stating that AI-driven predictions will personalize learning experiences by providing data-driven guidance.

Akgün stated that this system will support each student’s learning pace, thereby increasing their success. “It is an exciting development that artificial intelligence provides more accurate guidance and direction for students whose success is predicted to advance to a higher level. AI will go beyond the traditional learning experience confined to the four walls of the classroom as we know it today. Teachers will be able to create high-quality teaching materials by working on the drafts provided by AI. This will contribute to teachers being able to produce higher quality products in a much shorter time compared to traditional methods. In addition, AI-based assignment and exam evaluation systems can minimize human errors and provide students with faster and more comprehensive feedback, accelerating the learning process. This technology can offer students a more effective learning experience while also reducing teachers’ workloads and directing them to develop more specialized products.”

Risks and opportunities of artificial intelligence should be analyzed carefully

Akgün also warned that the opportunities and risks presented by artificial intelligence should be analyzed carefully, stating that the success of AI is directly related to data and that concerns about data security and privacy will become increasingly important with the growing use of AI. He emphasized that it is critical to protect student data in AI applications used in education and that it is essential to ensure that unauthorized access is not allowed.
