The Faculty of Dentistry of Adıyaman University, which was severely damaged and collapsed in the earthquake, has started to provide health and education services again in the prefabricated building that has been established.
The wounds of the earthquake on February 6 continue to be healed in Adıyaman. Public institutions are reviving the services disrupted after the earthquake. The Faculty of Dentistry of Adıyaman University, which is a cornerstone in the education of students and assistants, as well as in the oral and dental health of the citizens in Adıyaman, was severely damaged and collapsed in the February 6 earthquake. The education and health services provided by the Faculty of Dentistry have been resumed.
After the earthquake, the neighborhood clinic located within the Adıyaman University campus was transformed into a 32-unit Oral and Dental Health Center.
Later, a prefabricated Faculty of Dentistry with an enclosed area of 1,500 square meters was opened, and a total of 85 units were activated. Phantom and Preclinical laboratories were also established for the 430 students studying at the Faculty of Dentistry.
Thanks to the Faculty of Dentistry, which has been operating for about a month and a half, citizens are no longer being referred to other cities. Before the earthquake, the faculty, which served 500 patients daily with 103 units, is now serving over 400 patients daily with 85 units.
A permanent dentistry faculty building will be constructed on an area of 12,000 square meters with a protocol signed between the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and Adıyaman University.
Providing information about the works, Adıyaman University Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Keleş stated, “Our Faculty of Dentistry was heavily damaged and collapsed after the February 6 earthquake. Of course, the education of our dental faculty students and assistants holds a very important place in terms of health services for our people. Previously, we had transformed a neighborhood clinic located in our university campus into a dental hospital with 32 units. Our aim in this was to prevent the urgent transfer of our patients outside the province. Our hospital, our Faculty of Dentistry served the public with 103 units. After making 32 units functional there, we later conducted feasibility studies for a total of 85 units with an enclosed area of 1,500 square meters in the same area. We completed the plans and projects, and we have been serving the people of Adıyaman for 1.5 months. “
