IGSAŞ, one of Turkey’s leading fertilizer producers, continues to add value to Turkish agriculture with its $60 million investment in Samsun. The company will produce NP-NPK and organomineral fertilizers, which are essential for the industry, at its new facility.
As one of Turkey’s largest industrial enterprises, IGSAŞ is strengthening its position in the fertilizer sector with its new investments. The company initiated a $60 million investment in Samsun in the early months of 2022 and has brought its fertilizer plant into operation within two years. Recently, the first productions of NP-NPK and organomineral fertilizers, which are needed in the industry, were carried out at the new factory.
IGSAŞ General Manager İlkay Ünal stated that they continue their efforts without slowing down to create sustainable value for the agricultural sector, saying, “Two years ago, we announced that we had made a new investment decision in Samsun. Now, we are experiencing the joy of realizing this investment. We designed our new facility in Samsun according to the changing needs of Turkish agriculture and innovations in the sector. Our facility, which has a flexible structure, has the capacity to produce many products, and we will manufacture the NP-NPK and organomineral fertilizers that Turkish lands and our farmers need. With the commissioning of our facility, we will double our existing annual compound fertilizer production capacity from 277,900 tons to 555,800 tons. At the same time, with this capacity increase, we will revitalize our sector by producing OMG products that we have not manufactured before and compound products in special formulations. We will also contribute to our country’s economy by creating a new employment area in the region. I wish our facility, which will add yield and abundance to Turkish farmers and the land of our country, all the best.”
Ünal noted that the use of organomineral fertilizers has become widespread in the last 10 years and will continue to increase, stating, “The use of NP-NPK fertilizers is around 70-80%, while organomineral products have reached the 20-30% range. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry’s data, between 6.5-7 million tons of fertilizer is consumed for agricultural purposes in our country, varying by year. Of this figure, 2-2.2 million tons are composed of compound fertilizers.”
“We have added an annual 277,900 tons to our production capacity”
Ünal continued his remarks by saying, “With the commissioning of our Samsun factory, we have added an annual 277,900 tons to our capacity. We believe that we will make a significant contribution to Turkey’s fertilizer needs, especially in the Black Sea region. With the strength we derive from our knowledge accumulated over more than 50 years, we aim to continue making a difference in the industry with innovative, leading, and sustainable practices.
