Yumurtalık Mayor Erdinç Altıok has focused on the workers’ receivables despite the debts left by the previous administration. Mayor Altıok took over the Yumurtalık Municipality, which has an average monthly income of 5 million TL, with a high debt of 205 million TL, compared to its income. Despite this debt burden, he has deposited the salaries of workers and employees without any shortfalls.
Stating that the municipality has a debt of 90 million TL to various firms, 24 million TL in old receivables of workers and civil servants, and a total of 205 million TL, including 91 million TL for civil servants, social security payments, withholding taxes, and tax payments, Mayor Altıok has made a significant achievement, so to speak.
In the 3.5 months since he took office, he has conducted intensive work to reduce expenses and increase revenues, noting that he received great support from Adana Metropolitan Mayor Zeydan Karalar in diversifying services in the district. During this process, he reduced the municipality’s expenses and maximized its revenues.
Within a short period, he has deposited all the salaries of workers and civil servants, who have not received full salaries for 10 years, emphasizing that they will continue to do so. Yumurtalık Mayor Erdinç Altıok stated that a total payment of 25 million TL was made to workers and civil servants. He reminded that approximately 7 million TL of the payments was made concerning the old receivables of workers and civil servants, saying, “We will act knowing that labor is the highest value. We will continue to deposit the receivables of our workers without delay.”
Workers, sharing their happiness for receiving the fruits of their labor after many years, said, “Every month when our salary day came, the money that was deposited into our account was 6,000 TL. The amount deposited on payday was not enough to meet any of our needs. When we fell into great difficulties, we begged and received an additional 2-3 thousand TL in installments. Unfortunately, they paid us what we were owed like a beggar’s alms. We always had receivables left inside. Some of our friends had 250,000 TL left, some had 180,000 TL, and some had 120,000 TL. The old municipal administration left us in a very difficult economic situation. We suffered serious damage. It was a heartbreaking situation that a cleaning personnel who worked all day behind a garbage truck in the Adana heat could not receive their salary. Thanks to our mayor Erdinç Altıok, since he took office, we have started seeing money in our pockets. We have begun to meet the needs of our homes.”
Many workers who have been working at the municipality for 10 years stated that they did not even know how much their full salary was until now, and they were not given any information about these matters. Employees stated that they learned how much their full salaries were when they first saw them in their accounts in April, immediately after Erdinç Altıok was elected as mayor. They said, “May God be pleased with our mayor. Since April 1, we have been receiving all our receivables on time and in full every month, along with our overtime payments. Additionally, we have been paid concerning our old receivables. We have taken a breath financially after many years. We thank our mayor.”
