The International Uşak Tarhana Festival, organized by the Uşak Municipality at the Green Karaağaç Natural Living Center, featured various activities on its second day; the specially produced Uşak Tarhana, cooked in a giant cauldron weighing 31,800 tons, succeeded in breaking a world record and entering the Guinness World Records.

The Tarhana festival started its second day with enthusiasm, attracting thousands of participants. At 19:00, the Guinness Tarhana Cooking Record attempt took place, with everyone holding their breath. Uşak Mayor Özkan Yalım, who meticulously planned every detail and ensured a flawless process with his instructions, stated in his speech at the giant cauldron that they aimed to leave a historical mark and had started all the necessary preparations long in advance. After the cooking process of the tarhana soup was completed, the record verification stage took place under the supervision of Guinness representatives in Turkey, accompanied by the enthusiastic crowd. The Uşak Tarhana, boiled in the giant cauldron, weighed in at 31,800 kilograms with 30,292 liters, successfully entering the Guinness World Records. Thus, it was certified internationally as the largest soup in the world, breaking the world record.

Sharing this great pride with all the citizens, Uşak Mayor Özkan Yalım said, “We are on the second day of our International Uşak Tarhana Festival. Today is the biggest and proudest day for us. As I have emphasized since the day I took office, our primary goal is to promote Uşak and our tarhana, which is the most important symbol of Uşak. As of this evening, we have accomplished this. By breaking the largest soup record with the tarhana soup boiled in our giant cauldron of 31,800 liters, we have succeeded in entering the Guinness World Records with 30,292 liters. The city of firsts deserved this long ago. Just as we have achieved in every field, we have brought this success to Uşak. This pride and happiness is more than enough for us. I will fulfill the promises I made one by one and bring our city to the place it deserves in every sense. I thank all my team for their efforts in making this happiness possible.” Mayor Yalım emphasized that they prepared a local and regional festival apart from the expatriate festival, stating, “I mentioned that we would promote Uşak internationally. We have carried out all our work accordingly and managed to write our name in such an important book. I am very honored and proud to share this special moment with our valuable guests and citizens who came from outside the city. I thank all our guests for not leaving us alone. This pride belongs to all of us.”

The competition that crowned the record

Immediately following the excitement of the record, the Most Tarhana Drinking Contest was organized, leading to fierce competition among citizens. In this fun contest, which hosted colorful moments, the person who drank the most tarhana was awarded a prize.

Later in the evening on the second day of the International Uşak Tarhana Festival, our local artists Şevki Ünlü, Garip Ali, Mustafa Çobanoğlu, and Şaban Er performed, entertaining their listeners. The day was concluded with a colorful song repertoire and unique stage performance by the master voice of Turkish folk music, Onur Akın. The night, where thousands of people sang in unison and became one heart, left the people of Uşak with an unforgettable day.
