The touch of a woman’s hand has reached the greenhouses in Gaziantep.

Thanks to the project implemented in the Yavuzeli district of Gaziantep, 14 housewives have started production in the greenhouse where they received training.
The “Empowering Women Greenhouse Farmers” project, carried out in collaboration with the Yavuzeli District Governorship, the Southeastern Anatolia Project (GAP) Regional Development Administration, Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality, Gaziantep Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, and the Yavuzeli District Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, established a training and application greenhouse to provide greenhouse farming training to women farmers.
In 2022, in order to develop greenhouse farming in Yavuzeli district, a contract was signed with 10 women farmers for the establishment of a greenhouse on one decare of land by the Southeastern Anatolia Project (GAP) Regional Development Administration.
As the project progressed, it was decided to establish a training and application greenhouse within the Yavuzeli District Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry and provide greenhouse farming training to women farmers in this greenhouse.
The tender and installation phases of the project were completed, and it was prepared for production. In the scope of the project, trainees were determined, and greenhouse farming training began for 14 women farmers.
In the training and application greenhouse established to increase the agricultural knowledge of women farmers and support their gaining experience in the sector, theoretical and practical trainings started for 14 women farmers, and the first harvest in the greenhouse was collected.
All income from the greenhouse will be distributed to poor families through the Social Assistance and Solidarity Foundation.
Yavuzeli District Director of Agriculture and Forestry, Ali Kurt, expressed his happiness about the successful implementation of the project.
Kurt stated that as the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry in Gaziantep, they prepared various projects to increase vegetable production in the city, and with the approval of these projects, 14 women became employed, and they aimed to increase the number of these projects.

Kurt expressed that thanks to the “Empowering Women Greenhouse Farmers” project, 14 housewives have started production in their owned greenhouse, saying, “The agricultural lands in our district are generally small plots. We decided to create a one-decare greenhouse project for our disadvantaged women farmers. Our project was approved by the GAP Regional Presidency in 2022. Due to increasing inflation, we could not implement the project. After discussions with GAP due to our inability to implement the project, we decided to establish a training and application greenhouse. We started to provide training to our female trainees. Thank God we started the project and began our trainings. We have 2000 tomato seedlings in our greenhouse. Our women have grown our tomatoes. Our trainees will receive training in 168 sessions. Right now, we have planted tomatoes, and we are providing training from planting to production. We will provide both theoretical and practical training to our women farmers. At the same time, we are expecting support for a one-decare greenhouse project for 10 women farmers, which is the continuation of the project. Our women are really curious and dedicated. Since women are always in disadvantaged groups, they depend on their husbands. Now, our women need to gain their own economic independence. Our women farmers are expecting support from us in this regard,” he said.
The women participating in the training expressed their satisfaction with the greenhouse farming training, stating that they were very happy to contribute to both Yavuzeli and Gaziantep as well as to their family economy, and they wished for continuous support for women farmers.
