Dietitian Tuğçe Öntürk, who works in Hatay, stated that during these days of scorching heat, people should drink 2.5 liters of water daily to prevent fluid loss.
With the arrival of summer, temperatures have increased across the country, exceeding 40 degrees in Hatay as well. High temperatures negatively affect various professions, especially agricultural workers working outdoors. Dietitian Tuğçe Öntürk, who works at Hatay Education and Research Hospital, expressed that fluid loss can be balanced with beverages like plain mineral water or buttermilk instead of sugary drinks. She advised against excessive consumption of tea and coffee, noting that if sufficient fluid is not taken, complaints such as nausea, headache, and weakness may occur.
“We recommend a daily intake of 2.5 liters of water to prevent fluid loss.”
Dietitian Öntürk pointed out that fluid loss in our bodies increases with rising temperatures, stating, “When sufficient fluid is not consumed, complaints such as nausea, headache, and weakness can occur. To prevent these complaints, we recommend at least 2.5 liters of water daily. Healthy beverage alternatives such as plain mineral water, buttermilk, and homemade lemonade should be preferred instead of sugary and carbonated drinks. Excessive consumption of tea and coffee should be avoided. We should stay away from very fatty and spicy foods that are hard to digest. Instead, we should increase our consumption of easily digestible foods rich in liquids, vitamins, and minerals, and suitable seasonal fruits and vegetables. Additionally, because food can spoil more quickly in hot weather, we must also pay attention to the storage conditions of food.”
