The contract for the “Strong Cooperative with Productive Women” project, for which Tavas Municipality was the applicant, was signed under the 2024 Technical Support Program of the Aegean Development Agency (GEKA).
In the project aimed at increasing women’s employment, women will receive training and consultancy services for cooperativism under the leadership of Tavas Municipality and with the support of GEKA. The contract signing ceremony was attended by Tavas Mayor Kadir Tatık, GEKA Secretary General Özgür Akdoğan, and project consultant Kazım Özdağ.
Mayor Kadir Tatık wished the project to be beneficial for all of Tavas, especially for women: “With this project, we aim for our women to take a more active role in the business world, to advance further in economic and social fields, and to contribute to social development. We will witness the success stories of our productive women together. With the support of GEKA, we will continue to work towards the establishment and sustainability of our women’s cooperative. I wish it to be beneficial for all the people of Tavas, especially our women,” he said.
GEKA Secretary General Özgür Akdoğan stated that “Tavas Municipality wants to lead the establishment of a women’s cooperative to ensure the trade and recognition of local products in the district and to increase women’s employment,” and continued: “In this context, they requested consultancy regarding the process of establishing a cooperative. In the coming days, a women’s cooperative will be established with the women that the municipality will encourage, and as an agency, we will provide consultancy in areas such as institutionalization, sales, and marketing during the establishment process and in the initial phase after it is established. The General Directorate of Development Agencies of the Ministry of Industry and Technology has also determined the theme for 2024 as ‘Women Entrepreneurship/Women Employment.’ In our activities in the upcoming period, we will focus on women entrepreneurship and continue our efforts to reach sustainable development goals by organizing programs and supports aimed at increasing women’s employment.
