Heavy rains that started in the evening hours in Giresun and intensified at night caused material damage, especially in the city center as well as in the districts of Tirebolu, Espiye, and Doğankent. After the floods and landslides, a house collapsed in the village of Köseler in Tirebolu, and 4 houses were evacuated as a precaution.
Starting from 21:20, excessive rainfall in the inner parts of the city center, as well as in Tirebolu, Espiye, and Doğankent, led to incidents of flooding and landslides. The 112 Emergency Call Center received nearly 50 reports of people being stranded, flooding, landslides, and soil erosion from the affected area. Upon the report of a house collapsing in the Köseler village of Tirebolu, teams were dispatched to the scene, and it was determined that no one was inside the collapsed building. In the same village, 4 houses were damaged by floods and landslides and were evacuated as a precaution. There were no casualties or injuries reported during the disaster, but material damage occurred.
The Giresun-Gümüşhane highway was closed to traffic due to landslides around the 6 Martyrs Bridge on the Tirebolu-Doğankent road, but after ongoing work throughout the night, the road was opened to one-lane traffic. More than 50 search and rescue teams, including AFAD teams coming from Samsun and Ordu, as well as AKUT and volunteers, were dispatched to the region. Citizens who were stranded were rescued and evacuated from their locations. While the repair of the landslide-affected roads continues, it has been indicated that the rainfall will continue to be effective throughout the day today, and citizens are advised to stay away from areas at risk of flooding and landslides and to follow the warnings of the authorities.
Giresun Governor Mehmet Fatih Serdengeçti conducted inspections in the flood area throughout the night and received information from the authorities.
