“Our goal is to prepare the city for earthquakes”
The newly appointed Istanbul Provincial Director of Environment and Urbanism, Maliki Ejder Batur, stated, “Hacı Mehmet Güner has been successfully carrying out this duty for 6 years. We have been appointed to this position by the presidential decree. We will take this flag today. Public duties are a transfer of a flag. We will do our best to fulfill our responsibilities until we pass this flag on to those who come after us. Our responsibility is Istanbul. Istanbul is the capital of our civilization. Istanbul is the capital of our culture. Istanbul is our most precious asset. Istanbul, with its 39 districts, 963 neighborhoods, and the 16 million people living in it, is a mega city where one in five people in our country resides. In this context, it is also a city with mega problems. This mega city has come to the present day after overcoming most of its problems during the period when our President served as the Mayor of the Metropolitan Municipality. Of course, some issues like earthquakes are not matters that can be resolved quickly from today to tomorrow. It requires long-term efforts. One of the most important duties of the Provincial Directorate of Environment, Urbanism, and Climate Change is to prepare this city for earthquakes, in addition to increasing the quality of life and living comfort of our fellow citizens living in Istanbul, along with 39 district municipalities, the Metropolitan Municipality, and other organs of our government.”
