The Sports Festival and Niğde Half Marathon event has started in Niğde.

A sports event was held on Dr. Sami Yağız Street, which was closed to traffic as part of the Niğde Sports Festival and Niğde Half Marathon event.
The Niğde Governorate, Niğde Municipality, and the Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports organized sports activities for citizens in various branches such as tennis, football, volleyball, and basketball during the two-day Sports Festival and Niğde Half Marathon events.
In the event, Niğde Governor Cahit Çelik, who participated in sports with the citizens, provided information about the Niğde Half Marathon, which will be held in memory of Ömer Halisdemir. Governor Çelik said, “Today we have kicked off the Sports Festival and the Niğde Half Marathon, and the finale will take place on Sunday with the marathon. We have a race with 3 stages. We are holding the marathon in honor of Martyr Ömer Halisdemir, with distances of 5, 10, and 21 kilometers. We want to continue this in the same way in the coming years. We have received more registrations than we expected. The number of athletes registered for the 3 different stages is about 500. I invite all our citizens to the event we will hold on Sunday.”
Niğde Mayor Emrah Özdemir also stated: “We are organizing sports festivals under the leadership of our governorate. There will be marathons, and I will also run in the 5-kilometer race. There will be a competition held in memory of Ömer Halisdemir. Our Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports is organizing it, and we are trying to contribute as a municipality.”
The Niğde Half Marathon, held in memory of Martyr Ömer Halisdemir, will take place on July 20 on the 21, 10, and 5-kilometer courses in the city center.
