The system that allows free transfers for 90 minutes after the first boarding in public transportation, promised by the Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, Dr. Cemil Tugay, during the election process, will start on the night connecting July 21 Sunday to July 22 Monday. Starting from Monday, Izmir residents will experience the economic comfort of free travel for 90 minutes after the first boarding on public transport vehicles.

One of the most important goals within the Rapid Action Plan covering the first 180 days of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Cemil Tugay has been realized. The countdown has started for the system that will allow free transfers for 90 minutes after the first boarding in public transportation. Izmir Innovation and Technology Joint Stock Company affiliated with Izmir Metropolitan Municipality has completed its preparations for the new system. The system, which will allow multiple transfers with only the first boarding fee within 90 minutes, will start on the night connecting July 21 Sunday to July 22 Monday.

Accepted in the third meeting
Following the assumption of office by President Cemil Tugay, the proposal presented at the UKOME meetings held on May 15 and June 14 was rejected by the negative votes of representatives of institutions and organizations affiliated with the central administration. The proposal regarding the system was brought up again at the Transportation Coordination Center (UKOME) meeting held on July 10. President Cemil Tugay, who kept the proposal on the agenda by saying, ‘There is no giving up. Izmir residents demand their 90 minutes right. We will continue to carry this demand of our people to every UKOME meeting until it is accepted,’ after being rejected twice by majority vote, the proposal was unanimously accepted at the third meeting.

Tugay: ‘We will continue to carry out works to facilitate life’
Commenting on the decision, Mayor Tugay said, ‘We are proud to fulfill another promise we made during the election period. After the decision unanimously taken by UKOME, we have completed our work and will implement the application as of midnight on July 22 Monday. We will continue to carry out works that will contribute economically to our fellow citizens and facilitate life in our city. Congratulations to Izmir for the 90 minutes of free transfers.’
