During the program organized on the occasion of July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day, a poem titled ‘Ahmedim Mehmedim’, written by Ali Oruç, the father of Police Officers Ahmet Oruç and Mehmet Oruç who were martyred in the treacherous coup attempt, was recited in his own voice. While martyr’s father Ali Oruç was reciting the poem, Nevşehir Chief of Police Ali Loğoğlu also couldn’t hold back his tears.

‘Those who wore our uniform acted as extras’

In his speech at the program, Mayor of Nevşehir Rasim Arı said, ‘The date is July 15, 2016. The treacherous coup attempt was directed and produced by those who see themselves as the big brothers of the world, those who see the Muslims as their financiers, and those who wore our uniform as extras. We are the grandchildren of Fatih Sultan Mehmet. They did not know, we are the grandchildren of the ancestors who recaptured the shipyards, reclaimed the coasts, and reestablished the republic by landing in Samsun on May 19 with a handful of believers.’

‘We will not forget even if 80 years pass’

Nevşehir Governor Ali Fidan emphasized unity and solidarity in his speech at the program. Governor Fidan said, ‘Just as we descended to the squares 8 years ago with what feelings, today we carry the same spirit. We have gathered once again to remember with mercy and gratitude our dear martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the homeland, nation, state, and flag, and to express our gratitude to our heroic veterans. Our primary duty is not to forget and not to let forget the treacherous attempt made on the night of July 15. Even if 80 years pass, we will never allow July 15 to be forgotten or erased.’
