On the 8th anniversary of the treacherous coup attempt on July 15th, hundreds of people from Kars gathered in the squares, delivering a message of unity and solidarity, showing once again their support for President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The events, starting with a procession from Kars Bedesten, continued with a vehicle convoy. Hundreds of citizens carrying flags participated in the program held at the democracy square. The July 15 National Unity and Democracy Day events began with a moment of silence and the singing of the National Anthem. Speaking to the crowd after the recitation of the Quran, AK Party Kars Deputy Adem Çalkın stated that the people of Kars repelled the coup plotters during the treacherous coup attempt. Deputy Adem Çalkın said, ‘On the night of July 15, the minions of international imperialism, FETÖ, who tried to seize Turkey, were thwarted by the nation’s man, our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. July 15 is the date when the shackles of the artifacts that were intended to be imposed on this glorious nation, which lives for patriotism, independence, and faith, were once again shattered.’ Governor Ziya Polat, who spoke next, emphasized the importance of using the word ‘treacherous’ and reiterated that it is necessary to shout it out loud. He underlined that the nation will stand up in the squares again when needed, as the descendants of thousands of years of history who have taken care of these lands and will continue to do so, regardless of the games played by organizations like FETÖ, PKK, or any others. Poet Ilgar Çiftçi recited his poem titled ‘July 15’ after the speeches. The events continued with a video show, and the students who were awarded in the poetry and story contests organized by the Directorate of National Education were given their prizes. The activities will end with a night democracy vigil.
