A commemoration program was held in Mardin as part of the July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day activities. The program started with the ‘July 15 National Will and Democracy Photo Exhibition’, consisting of photos taken during and after the coup attempt by FETÖ at the July 15 Democracy and Martyrs Park, followed by a moment of silence, the singing of the National Anthem, and the recitation of the Quran.
The Governor of Mardin, Tuncay Akkoyun, addressed the citizens during the program, saying, ‘Today we commemorate the 8th anniversary of the most despicable coup attempt in the history of our country, the betrayal of July 15. At the beginning of my words, I pray to Allah for mercy for our heroes who reached the rank of martyrdom while resisting the traitors who used planes, helicopters, tanks, and weapons during that treacherous coup attempt. I also wish our brothers who have been honored with the title of veteran a good life, health, and peace. We know that martyrs are neighbors of Prophet Muhammad and their ranks are high. May God not lead us astray from the path of our martyrs.’ Akkoyun emphasized that on July 15, our nation fought against traitors with the strength and inspiration it drew from Malazgirt, the Conquest of Istanbul, the Victory of Gallipoli, and the War of Independence. He stated, ‘Our noble nation, with a rare and brave struggle that night, did not betray its honor and independence on the homeland, with the prayers of the prophets and saints buried in the land. Today, we are in the Turkish Century as a whole, with 85 million people, strengthening our national unity and solidarity with the motto ‘One Nation, One Flag, One Homeland, One State.’ Thanks be to God.’ We have not forgotten, will not forget, and will not let anyone forget our brave heroes who lay in front of tanks without hesitation, without waiting for the morning of that night to disrupt the plans of traitors. The operations and efforts against the treacherous terrorist organization FETÖ by our state continue without interruption. Akkoyun added, ‘Until the last FETÖ member is captured, we will continue this struggle with determination, no matter where the FETÖ traitors hide or whom they seek help from. We have never allowed, and will never allow, any malignant entity or terrorist organization that sheds the blood of our people and makes sinister plans on our country, no matter where in the world they exist. May God assist our State, our people, and our security forces in this blessed struggle.’
