In Karaman, on the 8th anniversary of July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day, hundreds of people gathered at Aktekke 15 July Democracy Square with Turkish flags in their hands. The commemoration program of July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day started in the early hours of the morning. The programs, starting with visits to martyrs’ graves, continued with evening events in the square. The program was attended by Karaman Governor Hüseyin Engin Sarıibrahim, Mayor Savaş Kalaycı, Rector of KMU Prof. Dr. Mehmet Gavgalı, Provincial Police Chief Ahmet Selçuk Okumuş, Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Senior Colonel Murat Alkan, department heads, political party representatives, and many citizens. After the National Unity Walk, a moment of silence was observed followed by the crowd singing the National Anthem together. Following the viewing of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s ‘Address to the Nation’ speech, protocol speeches were made.
We are celebrating the eighth anniversary of the Nation’s Victory. In his speech, Karaman Governor Hüseyin Engin Sarıibrahim said, ‘We are celebrating the eighth anniversary of the ‘Nation’s Victory,’ which was achieved thanks to the grace of God, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s leadership, the strong will of our nation and security forces, against the treacherous coup attempt by the FETÖ terrorist organization, which has insidiously infiltrated various levels of our state for 40 years and aimed to abolish our country’s unity, national will, and democracy on the night of July 15, 2016. On the night of July 15, against the FETÖ traitors, who wrote an epic with their blood, I extend my condolences to all our martyrs who stood up for our call to prayer, our flag, and our independence; and express my gratitude to our veterans for their courage and sacrifices. I salute with respect and esteem my fellow citizens of Karaman, who have shown a heroic stance by standing by the state and the nation, filling these squares with love for their country and nation, and who are also here this evening, in response to the epic call of our President Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.’
