A torchlight procession was organized in Niğde on the occasion of July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day. The Niğde protocol and citizens gathered at the Derbent Intersection with torches and Turkish flags in their hands, and walked to the Republic Square. The torchlight procession, accompanied by commandos and the Niğde Municipality Janissary Band, ended in front of the Atatürk Monument. Following the march, Democracy Watch Activities started at the Governorship campus. The program, which started with a moment of silence and the National Anthem, included the recitation of the Quran and the screening of a documentary about the July 15 Coup Attempt. Niğde Governor Cahit Çelik, in his speech, stated that on that night, thanks to the honorable stance shown by our nation and heroic security forces against the treacherous coup attempt targeting the unity, integrity, and solidarity of our country, the traitors were defeated, and July 15 took its place in our glorious history as a saga of independence and future. He emphasized that just like in the Battle of Manzikert, Çanakkale, and the War of Independence, this nation did not tolerate this betrayal with the same faith and determination. He mentioned that with the call of our President, from the young to the old, our people, patriotic members of the Turkish Armed Forces, and security forces prevented the coup attempt and responded to the traitors in the strongest way. He concluded by saying, ‘This uprising will go down in history as the Victory of the Nation. Thanks to Allah, the Republic of Turkey is a great and powerful state. Dark forces and external actors who cannot digest the rapid rise, development, growth of our country, and the noticeable power and influence in our region will never succeed.’ MHP Niğde Deputy Cumali İnce, in his speech, stated, ‘This nation knows well how to drown traitors in their own blood.’ Niğde Mayor Emrah, on the other hand, expressed that until now, the call to prayer silenced the coups, but on the night of July, the call to prayer silenced the coup. Following the speeches, a performance was presented by the Niğde Municipality Janissary Band, an Islamic concert was held, and poems were recited by İbrahim Sadri.
