In the district of Selendi in Manisa, prayers were recited for the martyrs as part of the commemoration program of July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day. A program was organized in the district of Selendi in Manisa on the occasion of July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day. In the program that started at the Central Yeni Mosque, mevlit (a religious service) was recited for the martyrs and prayers were offered. District Governor Mustafa İlker Kara and Mayor Murat Daban visited Selendi war veteran Celal Semiz at his home and had a conversation with him. Then, the district protocol visited the grave of martyr Ekrem Çimen and recited prayers. As part of the events, a commemorative march was held from Selendi District Governor’s Office to Democracy Square, where at the end of the march a minute of silence was observed and the National Anthem was sung. Speaking at the program, Selendi District Governor Mustafa İlker Kara said, ‘8 years ago today, global imperialist forces and their local collaborators, the treacherous FETÖ members, attempted to invade our state, which is kneaded with the blood of martyrs, to bring down our flag that derives its color from the blood of our martyrs from the skies, and to cast aspersions on our national sovereignty, the qibla of the people’s will, our parliament, and our President, who is the head of our state. With this invasion attempt, they aimed to eliminate the unity and integrity of our country, our national will, and our democracy, trying to impose a second Sevres Treaty on our nation. Following the screening of videos prepared by the Presidency’s Communications Directorate, special poems for July 15 and recitations of the Quran and hymns by the District Mufti were held. The program ended after the call to prayer (sela) was recited at 00:13, as it was nationwide in Turkey. The program was attended by District Governor Mustafa İlker Kara, Mayor Murat Daban, AK Party District Deputy Chairman Fatih Aktaş, District Gendarmerie Commander Muhammed Tok, District Police Chief Emre Gevanci, Department Directors, representatives of civil society organizations, village headmen, and citizens.
