Martyrs of July 15 were commemorated with prayers in Izmir

On the 8th anniversary of the treacherous coup attempt that took place on July 15, 2016, martyrs were commemorated with prayers at the Izmir Kadifekale Air Martyrs’ Cemetery. After the ceremony, carnations were laid on the graves of the martyrs.

A ceremony was held in Izmir to commemorate the citizens who were martyred in the coup attempt on the 8th anniversary of the July 15 treacherous coup attempt organized by the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ/PDY). Izmir Governor Süleyman Elban, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay, Ege Army Commander General Kemal Yeni, Izmir Police Chief Celal Sel, representatives of political parties, martyr families, and veterans attended the ceremony held at Kadifekale Air Martyrs’ Cemetery. The program, which started with the recitation of the Quran by the Provincial Mufti Sinan Kazancı, continued with a prayer read by Governor Elban. Governor Elban later signed the memorial book.

“They have written an epic in history by defeating the treacherous attack”

Speaking at the ceremony, Izmir Governor Süleyman Elban said, “The courage and sacrifices shown by our martyrs, veterans, and all our people strengthen our belief in our country’s independence and freedom. The heroic nation that resisted the attack on our nation’s will and democracy on the night of July 15, under the leadership of our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, shattered this treacherous attack and wrote an epic in history with golden letters in line with the principles of one state, one nation. The love for this nation within our heroes once again reminds us of how important unity and solidarity are. Since the existence of our nation, there have been many threats and terrorist attacks against the states it has established; however, our nation and state have managed to emerge victorious from all of them. We have never abandoned our struggle against them and we will not. I bow with respect to the 15th of July martyrs, our veterans, and all our people; I pray for mercy from Allah for all our martyrs who sacrificed their lives for this paradise homeland, and wish health to our veterans.” Governor Elban, military officials, and representatives of political parties laid carnations on the martyrs’ graves and conversed with the martyr’s families after the speech.
