Yeşilyurt Mayor Prof. Dr. İlhan Geçit stated that the draft project prepared for the reconstruction of Çırmıhtı and Gündüzbey regions in Yeşilyurt, where significant destruction occurred after the disaster on February 6th of the century, in accordance with the original structure and with earthquake-resistant buildings specific to the region has been completed.
Following the earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş, the Gündüzbey neighborhood and the Çırmıhtı region in Yeşilyurt, which suffered severe damage, with many historical registered buildings, are regaining the longed-for old days. Emphasizing the importance of the project prepared by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change for ‘Çırmıhtı and Gündüzbey’, Mayor Prof. Dr. İlhan Geçit stated that the project is of great importance for Yeşilyurt and highlighted that Çırmıhtı and Gündüzbey will regain their deserved value with the project that will be implemented shortly.
“We have completed 2 of our projects, we are also waiting for our 3 projects”
Geçit, stating that the project drawings for a total of 450,613 square meters in Çırmıhtı region and 336,793 square meters in Gündüzbey neighborhood have been completed, mentioned that the project will be carried out by TOKİ and Emlak Konut under the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change.
Reminding that they made a presentation regarding the region during Minister Murat Kurum’s visit to Malatya, Mayor Geçit said, “Our Minister instructed to start the project quickly after the final evaluations regarding this region were made. First, the projects for Çırmıhtı and Gündüzbey were completed. Our negotiations with the Ministry continue for the renewal of Konak, Yakınca, and Bostanbaşı regions as a continuation of the project.
“We will revitalize the region’s tourism potential”
Stating that they aim to build in accordance with the historical and cultural structure of Yeşilyurt district, Mayor Geçit said, “Especially our Çırmıhtı and Gündüzbey neighborhoods are the settlements that highlight the historical and cultural values of our Yeşilyurt the most. Acting with this awareness, we will continue the construction processes in these regions in a way that is faithful to the past, showing more of the traces of the past, with a modern architecture that emphasizes the historical and cultural structure even more. We will revitalize the region’s tourism potential with its modern architecture that showcases its historical structure more than before, attracting more tourists to these areas, which open their doors to many tourists in terms of tourism.
“We will preserve the historical texture”
Providing information about the works to be carried out in the Çırmıhtı region, Mayor Geçit stated, “Within the scope of the street rehabilitation project of Çırmıhtı, we will rebuild our Traditional Çırmıhtı Houses in a way that is suitable for its historical texture and present that old authentic appearance in a more modern way to the viewers. Without disrupting the historical urban fabric, we aim to increase interaction around the square by expanding the old area from the location of the clock tower, and we will create suitable areas where our citizens can eat outdoors. At the same time, thanks to the settlement on the commercial axis defining the square, we will merge our Taste Street with the square, pedestrianize it. We aim to preserve our historical urban fabric by pedestrianizing Adıyaman and Uğurlu Streets in this region.
Providing information about the works to be carried out in Gündüzbey neighborhood, Mayor Geçit stated that they will ensure the circulation of vehicles from the north of the canal and merge the living areas around the canal with historical buildings. Geçit mentioned that they will create areas where the people in the region can come together and socialize along the canal, and they will serve the citizens in the region. Geçit said, “By ensuring that the areas designated by the canal and commercial units are pedestrianized and the old texture is preserved, we will realize the project with an architectural structure suitable for the city’s fabric, taking into account the past civil architectural features and natural characteristics of Gündüzbey, ensuring that the development residential areas open to the north of the canal are low-rise, detached, and with gardens. The master plans and conservation-oriented zoning plans of the areas included in the project have been completed, and the project will progress in stages. Tourist areas, squares, and residential areas in Çırmıhtı and Gündüzbey have been separated, and a detailed study has been conducted. Five or six types of housing projects will be implemented, and the designs of the houses next to the historical registered buildings will be made in accordance with the format of historical mansions. We thank Minister Murat Kurum, our Members of Parliament, and our Metropolitan Mayor for their contributions to our project.
