After the 6.8 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Elazığ in 2020, the steel construction houses with lake views built by the Housing Development Administration (TOKİ) in Gezin village resemble a holiday village. The houses, referred to as villa complexes by the villagers, stand out with their location and view.

Following the 6.8 magnitude earthquake in Elazığ on January 24, 2020, a total of 24,083 houses were built in Elazığ under the coordination of the then Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum upon the instruction of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and delivered to the beneficiaries. In addition to the city center, 3,285 single-story steel construction houses were built in villages. Constructed with advanced building technology, these houses offer rural residents peace and security along with living in harmony with nature due to their superior earthquake safety and technical features. 108 of these houses were established in Gezin village. Set in a dominant point overlooking Lake Hazar, these houses do not fall short of resembling a holiday village, drawing attention with their location and view.

“The wounds of the 2020 earthquake in Elazığ were healed early”
Enes Furkan Buğdalı, who stated that he is from Elazığ, said, “We spend our summers here. We are satisfied, and our view is beautiful. A beautiful living space has been created here. Overall, we are satisfied. This place was built as a result of the damage to the houses used by the village people. It does not look like a village house. It looks more like a tourist facility. It is a housing unit that appeals to summer residents. The wounds of the 2020 earthquake in Elazığ were healed early. In this regard, it was lucky and only one province was affected. It recovered early, but there are still damaged apartments in Kahramanmaraş earthquake. We spend our weekends here. There is also a great demand from neighboring provinces. This place has become a separate living space.”

“They call it a villa complex here”
Eyüp Ensar Bağcı said, “After the Elazığ earthquake, the government built and offered it to the public quickly and in a good way. It was presented as a beautiful living space. We live in Istanbul but we are here in summers and it is very beautiful. It is very beautiful with its nature, view, garden, and air. In other villages, they generally call it a villa complex here. People envy it because the government built it very well, quickly, and solidly.”
