Governor of Ağrı, Mustafa Koç, issued a message on the occasion of July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day. In his message, Governor Koç stated, ‘On the eighth anniversary of July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day, we proudly commemorate our nation’s victory for democracy and heroism once again. On the night of July 15, 2016, the despicable coup attempt by the treacherous FETÖ terrorist organization, acting as the puppet of global evil forces, targeting our country, democracy, and national will, was thwarted with the unparalleled courage of our people, the determination of our state, and the help of the Almighty. That dark night, millions of our citizens who heeded the call of our President and poured into the streets, shielded tanks, planes, and weapons with their love for the homeland, unwavering belief in democracy, and passion for independence, changing the future of a nation by risking their lives. On the night of July 15, our noble nation once again showed the world that no force can subjugate this nation when it comes to our homeland and independence. Just as expressed in the verses of our National Poet Mehmet Akif Ersoy, ‘I was saying the generation of Âsım… it is a real generation: / It did not disgrace its honor, it will not disgrace it,’ our nation together foiled the dirty games played on our homeland. Regardless of gender, age, every member of our nation descended to the streets to defend our independence and democracy. Today is a day to once again demonstrate the strength of our nation’s unity and love for our homeland. It is our greatest responsibility to protect this homeland entrusted to us by our martyrs and veterans in a manner befitting their sacred memories and pass it on to future generations. Each one of us must work with all our might to strengthen our unity and solidarity as the unwavering guardians of this sacred trust, to lead our country to brighter tomorrows. On this occasion, I extend my condolences to our martyrs, wish patience, health, and a life full of peace to our veterans and martyr families. May Allah keep our unity and solidarity eternal, and guide the path of our noble nation.’
