President Önal: ‘We will heal the wounds of the flood disaster’

One of the most affected districts by the heavy rainfall in Izmir, Bayraklı, where the Mayor of Bayraklı, İrfan Önal, has been in the field with relevant units since the beginning, supporting the district residents, stated, ‘We will quickly heal our wounds. We will be on alert for damage assessment and necessary actions to be taken afterwards. We will overcome these difficult times. Wishing all our citizens well.’

Following the severe rainfall in Izmir and the subsequent flood disaster, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay, Bayraklı Mayor İrfan Önal, and İZSU General Manager Gürkan Erdoğan conducted inspections at the scene until late hours of the night. All municipal teams worked tirelessly to evacuate floodwaters and intervene in damaged areas. The mayors, who stood by the shop owners and district residents affected by the flooding, conducted inspections in the areas damaged around Sevgi Yolu. Bayraklı Municipality and İZSU teams immediately intervened in the troubled areas and continued their work until late hours.

‘Wishing all our citizens well’

Bayraklı Mayor İrfan Önal, stating that they started the work by ensuring the safety of the citizens and cleaning the affected areas, expressed, ‘We encountered very sad situations with unexpected rainfall and flash floods in the summer. Unfortunately, two citizens in Alsancak lost their lives due to electric shock. We extend our condolences, may they rest in peace. We did not have any loss of life in Bayraklı, but our material damages are quite significant. We have been working in the field since the first moment of the flood with Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay, our directors, and muhtars to heal our wounds as soon as possible. We will heal our wounds very quickly. Hopefully, we will not face such natural disasters again. We will increase our preparations against flood disasters as much as possible without delay. All our teams worked tirelessly to evacuate floodwaters and intervene in damaged areas after the disaster. We will be on alert to repair the damages caused by the disaster.
