Palm trees are being pruned in Mersin

With the arrival of the summer season in Mersin, palm trees, which have become the symbol of the city, are pruned for healthier growth, rejuvenation, and to prevent any risk of disease. The teams affiliated with the Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Parks and Gardens Department continue pruning activities within the scope of urban aesthetics and city landscaping. Operating with a mission for a cleaner and greener Mersin, the teams affiliated with the Parks and Gardens Department carried out pruning on palm trees, one of their routine pruning activities. The teams aim to ensure the healthier growth, rejuvenation, and prevention of any disease risk of the palm trees that have become the symbol of Mersin by conducting pruning activities twice a year, in summer and winter. Working at hours when traffic and crowds are not intense to avoid disrupting traffic and preventing any potential accidents, the teams recently completed pruning operations on Inonu Boulevard located on the central coastal strip. Zeliha Mecit, the field control engineer responsible for pruning at the Parks and Gardens Department, stated that pruning operations are carried out in a technically appropriate manner to support the development of palm trees and ensure their proper flowering. Mecit mentioned that they have accelerated pruning activities with the arrival of the summer season, and emphasized the ongoing work on Inonu Boulevard. She explained the importance of pruning in palm trees as an essential maintenance measure and mentioned that they prune palm trees twice a year. In the summer months, pollen scattering and discomfort due to flower clusters can occur, hence they prefer to prune palm trees especially in the summer months to address this issue. Additionally, she mentioned that they will perform another pruning session before winter.
